Adult Swim Lessons

Adult Swim Lessons in Knoxville, TN

The American Boating Associationย states that for boating accidents with a known cause of death,ย “75% of fatal boating accident victims drowned”. Theย CDC also states that nearly 4,000 people drown every year, including adults! We want adults to have strong swimming skills as well as water safety knowledge so that they do not become part of these statistics. Join us in adult swim lessons in Knoxville, TN so you can be safer in the water.

What swimming skills can an adult acquire?

Adults can become Level 6 swimmers, ready to learn more advanced skills from other providers, such as scuba diving.

How do you help adults with a fear of swimming during swim lessons?

Many adults who never learned to swim had a negative experience when they were children. That negative experience might have even been traumatic. We adapt swim lessons for adults to the comfort level of the student. We start slow and allow the adult to acclimate to the water, one skill at a time.

We have had adults come through our program who were scared just to get there face wet. So, we started with simply sprinkling water on the face to learn to breath and relax. Our goal is to get you swimming when you are truly ready to swim. No need to force it!

How is your adult curriculum different than your curriculum for children?

In many ways, it is the same. Swimming requires the same skills for adults and children. However, with children we usually teach them to swim first and float later. Adults have a much easier time with learning to float and relax in the water first. We would teach children this way to, but they have a hard time staying still enough to float when they first learn.

Another key difference is the pacing. Adults usually pick up skills more quickly than children, so we can progress their swim lessons at a faster rate. That is, of course, if the adult wants to increase the pace and they are ready.ย

Think about a group class. There are 3 to 6 students in a class. How much attention are they really getting from their instructor? How much practice time is really possible in a 30 minute class?

Not much, which is why we offer 15 minute private lessons. They will get more attention and practice time in their 15 minute private lesson than they ever will in a group class that lasts 30 minutes.

If you still don’t believe that 15 minutes will work for you, check out our reviews on Googleย andย Facebook!

Our recommendations generally revolve around your family’s goals. Do you have a trip coming up that you want your kids to be ready for? Then you should book lessons as frequently as possible, even every day if you can. Do you want your kids to swim a year from now? Once a week will do just fine.

As you can guess, the more frequently you take lessons, the faster they will improve.

We HIGHLY recommend children 8 and under book 15 minute lessons until they are a level 4. Once they reach level 4, we don’t have a preference either way.ย

Students over 8 years old or level 4 and up can handle 30 minute, although 15 minutes works great too!

Ultimately, the choice is up to you. A 30 minute lesson obviously costs more than a 15 minute lesson, but we are here to serve you how you think is best for your family.
